If Google Earth hangs at the start-up screen, please click here to see the Google Earth thread for solving this problem. This problem arose on a Lenovo Thinkpad T60 with an ATI Mobility Radeon X1300.

The solution is to download the package at http://www.ground-impact.com/libGL.so.1.2 and to rename it as libGL.so.1. The package should be placed in the Google Earth directory. The default location is /opt/google-earth/

As soon as I put the libGL.so.1 in the Google Earth directory, GE worked.

Excellent solution, as soon as I loaded libGL.so.1 in the default folder, it worked. Thank for your support and help. Mandriva 2008 is looking like the best Linux Distro yet. I am trying to encourage as many of my friends away for Windoes Slug Vista.. This should convince them.

Thanks again.

I have the same problem, Google Earth freezing when I start it.

I try to use your advice however there is not a folder "google earth" in opt folder. There is only picasa folder there..How can I create a "google-earth" folder?

I found googleearth in /usr/lib, followed the instructions using that directory and it now works.

Thanks guys
I re-installed the ATi driver twice as I couldn't understand why google-earth wasn't working.
It's now fixed.
