Guys,

just trying to update the system (using your repo's) and have hit the following problem.

When I do auto-update I get asked...

Quote:
One of the following packages is needed:
1- libhowl0-devel-1.0.0-1mdk.i586 : Development headers for howl (to install)
2- libavahi-compat-howl0-devel-0.6.10-1.mdk2006.0.mde.i586 : Avahi devel compatibility library for libdns_sd for howl (to install)

I answer 1 (or 2, doesn't matter) and the processor then max's out and that's it.. nothing, even if I leave it for ages. Any ideas how to get around this?

ta.

Never happened what you are saying, dont know what rpms you have installed, maybe you are mixing mde rpms with sos or mandriva...
I need more imformation.
What happens if you download rpms locally and then do rpm -Uvh *

I have everything installed as I've had it for months without problem using your packages.

I have the following defined.

Code:

urpmi.updade
(one of Mandriva 2006 December Club Edition CD1 (cdrom1), Mandriva 2006 December Club Edition CD2 (cdrom2), Mandriva 2006 December Club Edition CD3 (cdrom3), Mandriva 2006 December Club Edition CD3 (cdrom4), Mandriva 2006 December Club Edition CD3 (cdrom5), Mandriva 2006 December Club Edition CD3 (cdrom6), Mandriva 2006 December Club Edition CD3 (cdrom7), Mandriva 2006 December Club Edition CD4 (cdrom8), Mandriva 2006 December Club Edition CD5 (cdrom9), Mandriva 2006 December Club Edition CD6 (cdrom10), plf-free, plf-nonfree, updates, main, contrib, jpackage, club.club_x86-32_2006, club.commercial_x86-32_2006, mde.rpms)

This has been working for ages, so not sure what has changed.

What package should I try and install manually?

Ta.

I have just re-booted the system and I'm afraid that KDE is now broken for me.

When I try and start it I get an X box that says

Could not start kdeinit, Check your installation.

If I go ok.. I just get a blank screen.

HELP?? Ta..

well im doing new kde based on new qt3-3.3.6 and i have just finished kdelibs that i will upload, and then you can login again in kde but you still you will not get all fancy since is still needed also at least new kdebase and kdeartwork.

Meanwhile you can downgrade to qt3-3.3.5-15 that you will get kde running ok again.

Thanks for the quick responce Ze.. you really are great...

What do you recommend? Continue with the updrade and use the basic stuff until you get the new stuff loaded (what sort of time frame are we talking about for the rest of kde?) or downgrade for the moment (how?).

Thanks again for all your efforts.

well kdelibs will be uploaded in maybe 15 minutes and then you will be able to login kde but you will not get the look you used to have since i still havent build kdebase and kdeartwork and now im going to bed get some rest but ill leave kdebase building, so i think is really up to you to see whats the best option Smile

Did something go astray with the upload? Been trying for ages but no new packages found..

Never mind.. guess I'll try again in the morning.

Thanks anway.

If I was to downgrade, how would I do that?

You can call downgrade when you want to install an inferior version.

To downgrade t3 you need to uninstall the current qt3 version and for that better use --nodeps and list qt3 rpms:

rpm -e --nodeps libqt3-devel libqt3-pch-headers liqqt3-static-devel qt3-doc qt3-example qt3-tutorial libdesignercore1 libeditor1 libqassistantclient1

If you have more qt3 rpms installed add them.

I went to bed and forgot to upload kdelibs Smile
But now kdelibs is uploaded and kdebase is being now uploaded.

Hi Ze,

Until now, I always made kde update with your package without problem. I try with latest rpms but when I choose kde-multimedia, a bunch of rpms must be remove. Here's message from urpmi (french is my native language Smile )

Les paquetages suivants doivent être supprimés afin que les autres
puissent être mis à jour :

gstreamer-polyp-0.8.11-4mdk.i586
(en raison du manque de libpolyp-error-0.7.so.0)
kalva-0.8.50-2mdk.i586
(en raison du manque de mplayer,
en raison du manque de mencoder,
en raison du manque de kmenc15)
kmenc15-0.04-2mdk.i586
(car mencoder >= 1.0-0.pre7 est non satisfait)
kmplayer-0.9.0-3mdk.i586
(en raison du manque de mplayer)
libpolypaudio0.7-devel-0.7-4mdk.i586
(car libpolypaudio0.7 == 0.7 est non satisfait)
lxdvdrip-1.46-1plf.i586
(en raison du manque de mplayer)
mencoder-1.0-1.pre7.20051220.0.1.20060plf.i586
(car mplayer == 1.0 est non satisfait)
mozplugger-1.7.3-1mdk.i586
(car mplayer >= 0.90-0.rc4 est non satisfait)
mplayer-1.0-1.pre7.20051220.0.1.20060plf.i586
(en raison du manque de libpolyp-error-0.7.so.0)
mplayer-gui-1.0-1.pre7.20051220.0.1.20060plf.i586
(car mplayer == 1.0 est non satisfait)
mplayerplugin-3.25-2mdk.i586
(car mplayer >= 0.92 est non satisfait)

All my sources (plf, plf-nonfree, main, contrib an others are OK).

May I try to install with --nodeps option or forget about new kde-multimedia packages?

Thanks for your great work Smile

I think that is due to new polypaudio-0.8.1 but since i have made a new qt3 all kde must be rebuilt and also packages like mplayer since the existing maplyer requires polypaudio-0.7, and i have too many things on my hands since im fixing some things in dbus that i forgot and that will also imply a new hal and that will also imply some new gnome files lile also firefox, gnomemeetings, etc, so as you see this will take some time to be build this and as you know we are only 2 persons and thac now also is busy...

for now you can choose to not install new polypaudio-0.8.1

Forgive me if this is a silly question, but why would you upload a new qt3 without the kde to go with it?

If the new qt3 isn't compatible with the current kde packages in the repo, it's going to be breaking installations of anybody who tries to update their system before the kde rpms are done. Downgrading packages is painful at best with urpmi (FWIW, smart does a much better job), and I don't think you should be putting users in the position where they're forced to do that.

I understand that building packages takes time and you're only two people, so I'm not asking that the kde packages be done overnight, that's not realistic. I just think it would be much smarter to not upload qt3 until everything is done, instead of giving a few packages at a time, which will only cause problems....

You are right, i should also had uploaded new kde with new qt3 but i discover that i didnt packed well dbus and that is originating some issues in wich i have to fix before doing the rest of kde and that will imply many work since there are many new packages to build like lignome, firefox and so on but im on it right now.

Meanwhile you can already install the new packages since kde will run ok now with new kdeartwork.

sence your rebuilding the whole kde system..Why not just wait till you have everything rebuilt before uploading...That way everything works right.Insted of just ok..Think that would be like a windows user installing antivirus. And say im protected ill update later...

PostPosted: Mon May 29, 2006 3:36 am    Post subject: New HAL is completely unhelpful Reply with quote Report

I'm getting extremely frustrated with the MDE repository, because the new HAL breaks all sorts of things. Because there's no libhal.so.0, it breaks K3b. And mounting USB drives doesn't work anymore. Why build dependencies on the new HAL if nothing actually works with it yet? I'm tried various variations to get my previously working KDE 3.5.2 working properly again, and I'm ready to give up.

Is there any way to get KDE 3.5.2 running with K3b and USB mounting working?

Thank you for your quick reply and your quick work. I'm downloading it now.

I'll let you know how it turns out. I really don't want to have to switch to Kubuntu... Wink
