I had problems browsing some websites, for example I couldn't see image results in Google images as I explained in this topic:
http://forum.mandriva.com/viewtopic.php?t=120591&highlight=

By manually setting DNS, I solved that problem, but now I can't install anything with rpmdrake or update system, when it wants to connect to the server, nothing happens, just a "wait please" dialog without any progress! Anytime I want to install/update I have to check "Get DNS servers from DHCP" option in network setting and reconnect to network. Strange!

What DNS servers are you using? It's possible they aren't aware of the zone the Mandriva update servers are located in.

One thing to try is use your manual DNS servers and see if you can add new media for install/update. It would find Mandriva servers that it is aware of, that is if it can contact Mandriva in the first place to get the mirror list.

Another option might be to try OpenDNS:

http://www.opendns.com/

Or ( Yuck ) google's public DNS, which addresses are 4.4.4.4 and 8.8.8.8.

Thank you for your help. I registered a free account at openDNS and changed the setting of network to use it as DNS, now everything works fine. Laughing
However, I wonder why the automatic DNS finding works without any problem on Windows with the same network I use in Mandriva (or any other Linux distribution) but doesn't work here?
