When I first tried Mandriva, I installed to my hard drive from One live CD. I checked out the 3d desktop and it worked fine on my computer. I liked Mandriva so I purchased Powerpack. On my first install everything seemed to work as it should so I went to install 3D and it locked up my computer. I didn't try it again after I did a fresh install. Now that I learned how to backup my system, I was going to try it again. When I went to control center, it says that my system doesn't support 3D effects. I am running KDE, have a Nvidia M110 card, and the Nvidia driver is installed. 3D worked from One, why wouldn't it work from Powerpack ?

It is not that I need 3D, Just haven't played with it before, and it bugs me when something doesn't work properly on my computer. I have read horror stories about this, so tell me if I shouldn't just leave well enough alone.

[chuck@localhost ~]$ grep Driver /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Driver "kbd"
Driver "mouse"
Driver "synaptics"
Driver "nv"
[chuck@localhost ~]$

Thanks Medo !

Code:
su
enter root password
XFdrake

(Note it's case-sensitive).

When it asks if you want to use the proprietary driver, answer yes.

Run the test option in that very last thing, make sure it works. If not, then post here.

You're on the open-source nvidia driver; AFAIK it doesn't support 3d. The proprietary does.

Thanks.

medo,
I ran this command. It picked GeForce 6100 for my Nvidia driver, and I don't know if that is correct. I have the Nvidia Quadro M110. I ran the test and I got rainbow colored vertical lines, so I just backed out and didn't make any changes.

So when I select that driver and hit test, the successful test is the rainbow colored vertical lines ?

The correct card group is usually already selected.

If I have the correct driver selected and hit the test button, what should I see to know the settings are correct ?

Now that I know the test was correct, I went ahead and installed the driver. Both 3D options work as they should. Thank you again Medo, and everyone else
