|
|
Hi
Following meeting of yesterday, here is a discussion thread so that we can setup elections for representatives. These 5 representatives will speak in name of all MUGS. For those who are interested, please post in this thread why you would like to be a representative. Deadline is 25/03/2009. Then we will proceed to vote.
As a reminder, below is a description of Cooker-Menu. This group will manage on a daily basis current and upcoming Mandriva Linux distributions. Cooker Menu members will represent the three groups listed earlier:
- Mandriva (5 representatives)
- Cooker (5),
- MUGs (5)
Each group will have one vote for every decision taken. In our mind’s eye Cooker Menu will embody a privileged meeting place for end users and distribution developers to exchange ideas and raise specific requests.
Main tasks:
- specifications for upcoming distributions
- conflict management
- synchronize decisions and global roadmap
- development planning
- follow-up of flagship software for future integration
But, once again, this list is not definitive. _________________ Mandriva engineering director |

Posting here all messages we had to move:
dexter11
I guess for this one has to follow development very closely. That pretty much rules me out.
So who's on the cooker ML from us?
Anne
Well it's also interesting to get users point of view that's why we need MUGs representative to give ideas and comments on current use of distribution. We already have 5 people from Cooker elected.
wobo
As dexter already wrote, for the reps in cooker-menu it is essential to
- follow cooker development closely
- know alittle bit about desitribution development or rather "design"
- follow the cooker ML
At least the latter 2 points do not apply to me which rules me out. This may be the case with many of us because the most communicative people are sometimes not people who want to deal with development (and vice versa)
On the other hand, if you want to go by the 5 most active communities, I have a question: would it be possible to bring somebody in who is not the rep of his community in MUGs? My choice would be one of my most active guys in MandrivaUser.de, a packager and close reader of the cooker ML. He is very active in user support as well, so in my mind meets every single requirement of the cooker-menu, except that he is not the MUGs rep of MandrivaUser.de (although he could act very well as my substitute).
Just a suggestion, waiting for your opinion. _________________ Mandriva engineering director |

legion ready for the battle
I like to be in cooker menu because in BlogDrake we have a Forum to do suggestions to improve Mandriva, if i am in cooker menu we can talk with developers directly and see if one or more of our suggestions are possible.
Mandriva is for us the best linux distribution and want to improve even more |

Although I don't feel myself comfortable with english and already have a heavy load for Linux, I think I have to be ready for Cooker Menu.
I've been making some Mandrake/Mandriva packages since a long time and keep them in my site. ( http://www.elektronist.com/download ) and I am also in Turkish translation team now.
Well, at least after 53 years I still have many more to learn and to do.

This message just came on our mailing list. It is, logically, part of this thread. To avoid losing time, here is a copy / paste of this email.
| Quote: | Hi,
I'm representing the French community. I've just been subscribed to
this list this evening, sorry to come late at the party... But I'm
catching up and reading the archives of this list.
But for now, I've discovered a forum thread has been started about the
Cooker menu representatives and I would really love to be part of
them.
Unfortunately, I'm not authorized to post to the forum and as the
deadline is ending in 28 mins, I bet I won't be able to post in
time...
So is it still possible to consider I'm applying for cooker menu, even
if I write it through this mailing list ? Or would it be possible to
extend the deadline, so that I can briefly present myself in the forum
thread ?
Regards,
Vincent Panel |

Before turning to the next release, could the cooker-menu please turn to the main issue which was discussed in the MUGs group and delegated to the cooker menue group:
better communication between the rest of the world and the developers. This includes
- response to topics in the forum
- response to bug reports (see #48460 as example)
As I understood the task of the MUGs representatives in the cooker-menu group they should relay such issues to the developers. Please do so and report back here.

FYI elected members have been registered to mailing-list:
https://ml.mandriva.net/wws/arc/cooker-menu
The problem is we can do lots of things together but nothing if nobody replies. _________________ Mandriva engineering director |

Indeed. Cooker-menu is made of developpers, MUGs and Mandriva salarees. Improvments will be done if proposals are done also. FYI cooker-chefs group have written both Manifesto and Code of Conduct on wiki. Now MUGs need to report points to their representatives to make things go on. As representatives they should speak for MUGs not for personal opinion.
