So I have tried like 5 distros of Linux and the only one that worked for me was PClinuxos but I want Mandriva cause I love the looks and the fact that Compiz fusion works for me with native drivers.

The problem is always Internetconnection. It doesnt work in Mandriva at all..cable or Wifi.

1. I cannot log on as root so how do I blacklist bcm43xx? I dont have writing permissions to the modprobe.conf and I cannot sign on as root in Mandriva..??

2. I have installed the wifi and got it to see the network but it cannot connect!!!

3. The cable connection does not work, I have tried using static ip to router and also assigned by dhcp...nada works!

Wifi=Broadcom
Cable=Realtek RTL 8169/8110 Family gigabit ethernet

I have windowsdrivers for both of hem. They both work great in Windows ofcourse.

I really love Linux but in the end the patience will not be there anymore ifnot basic stuff like an Internetconnection can work...sorry but that is just something that is way to basic to be this kind of messy, I know about open drivers and the Linux policy but if Linux should be a system for normal users it cant stay this hard.... I am using mandriva 2008 my card is the belkin f5d7000 pci using the drivers that came with
it. Using the ndiswrapper that came with 2008. When I reconfig my router to wpa I can see the router but can not connect it'll just goes to neighbors wireless connection that is unsecured. If there is a work around I'd like to try it.

Thanks

See:

you don't have to log in as root to perform tasks with root privileges.

Why do you want to login as root, you can use a console and subsitute the user to root (su root).

For your ethernet cable, this is my mandriva 2008 "out of the box" configuration.
Code:

[root@fuji jacques]# lspcidrake | grep -i realtek
r8169           : Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd.|RTL-8169 Gigabit Ethernet [NETWORK_ETHERNET]
[root@fuji jacques]# cat /etc/modprobe.conf
alias eth0 r8169
alias sound-slot-0 snd_hda_intel
options snd-ac97-codec power_save=1
install scsi_hostadapter /sbin/modprobe ahci; /sbin/modprobe ata_piix; /sbin/modprobe sata_via; /sbin/modprobe usb_storage; /bin/true
install usb-interface /sbin/modprobe uhci_hcd; /sbin/modprobe ehci_hcd; /bin/true
alias ieee1394-controller ohci1394
install ide-controller /sbin/modprobe piix; /bin/true
alias eth1 ipw3945
options snd_hda_intel model=fujitsu

You should post in network category.

Yes, and you also have the "Mandriva Control Center", you will find the "Network Center". When you execute Mandriva Control Center, you have the root privileges (this is why you enter the password, MMC will update the configuration files for you).

Weirdly enough I got the wifi to work by changing the driver to the other driver...very strange but hey it works.

But how do I blacklist the bcm43xx driver?
